Brad Stanford Certified as Civil Trial Advocate
2/1/2007

Brad Stanford is one of five NBTA board-certified civil trial advocates in Oregon, having been certified in 2001 and recertified in 2006. The National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA) is a nonprofit organization that seeks to improve the quality of trial advocacy and aid consumers in choosing experienced and highly qualified trial lawyers. The NBTA is accredited by the American Bar Association and is the only nationally recognized organization that certifies trial attorneys.

The standards set forth by the NBTA are challenging and meaningful. NBTA certification is voluntary, and proclaims to the public that the certified lawyer possesses integrity, dedication, and expertise in trial advocacy.

In order to become board certified, lawyers must meet the following standards:

• Establish that they are in good standing with the State Bar Association;
• Have at least five years as a practicing attorney with concentration in the specialty of trial advocacy;
• Submit actual copies of their written legal work for review;
• Complete continuing legal education requirements in the field of trial advocacy;
• Submit a list of names of judges and lawyers who are contacted by the NBTA to independently verify the lawyer's skill, experience, and reputation for ethical and professional conduct;
• Complete at least fifteen trials to verdict or judgment as well as forty additional matters and provide documentation to prove their involvement in multiple trials before judges and juries;
• Pass a day-long written examination regarding trial techniques, evidence and ethics; and
• Recertification is required every five years, with annual reporting requirements.

Brad is a member of the Oregon and Washington State Bars, the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, and the Association of Ski Defense Attorneys. Brad has been recognized by his peers as an Oregon "Super Lawyers" for 2006.  His practice focuses on all types of commercial litigation with an emphasis on product and premises liability, and particular expertise in recreational products liability.
